🚀Restaking Protocol

EigenLayer is the Ethereum-based protocol that introduces a novel cryptographic economic security primitive called Restaking. The introduction of this primitive enables the reuse of ETH on the consensus layer, where users can choose to restake their already staked ETH on the EigenLayer smart contract or use Liquid Staking Tokens (LST). This design not only extends cryptographic economic security to other applications on the network but also allows users to earn additional rewards.

Within the EigenLayer framework, Ethereum validators can participate in multiple services by restaking their staked ETH, providing security for these services. This helps ensure the security of multiple services by providing centralized security through the reuse of ETH, reducing the capital costs for validators' participation, and significantly increasing trust in various services.

For participants building new decentralized services on Ethereum, it's often necessary to initiate a new trust network to protect their systems, leading to fragmentation of security. However, EigenLayer addresses this issue by allowing any service to leverage the centralized security of Ethereum validators. This design is not limited by service composition, such as EVM compatibility, creating a favorable environment for permissionless innovation and free-market governance.

EigenLayer enables developers to leverage Ethereum's existing economic security infrastructure, including validator sets and capital. This process utilizes the security already established by Ethereum, simplifying the creation of new networks and services. Through Restaking, EigenLayer can utilize the ETH staked on Ethereum and validator sets for other services and networks.
